It was a day I will never forget. In fact, it was a day the whole world never forgot.  It was so shocking that the internet crashed. On that day, Farrah Fawcett died after her battle with cancer. But nothing prepared me for the shock I was going to happen in for a few hours later. My mom was picking me up from the university library when she told me that Michael Jackson had a heart attack. At first, I thought it was a rumor since there were a lot of rumors about him anyway. By the time we got home, I turned on the TV and saw the horrible news. I remember dropping the remote control. My sister called and thought I was having a nervous breakdown. I remember going to the local mall that Saturday hearing his music in the hall and in some stores. FYE ran out of Michael Jackson's and his family's music. That Sunday was when the 2009 BET Awards were happening they had to switch things to focus on Michael Jackson. It's been 15 years since I got one of the biggest shocks of my life...

What I Have Been Through

You all would not believe what I have during the last time I have posted. It all start sometime around late March. I wake up in felt pain in my right calf. The next day, the pain moved to my knee and I had trouble lifting it all the way. The pain so excruciating as I tried to sit in the bathtub.  My mom took me to urgent and the nurses put me in a wheelchair. The doctor diagnosed me with have a knee sprain. However, I wasn't able to get on the urgent care's x-ray machine because of my size. So she referred me  to an orthopedic doctor and an appointment for Monday afternoon. My knee felt like it locked up on me as I was getting a pedicure that weekend. After my mom went to work on that Monday morning, the pain spread to my knee, calf and foot. The pain was so excruciating I could not wait for 3:00 pm set for that afternoon. A nurse from urgent care called for a follow-up. She distracted with questions as I waited for an ambulance. The EMTs wrapped a bandage on my injured ...

Fried Chicken and Watermelon

Image
First of all, I would like to wish you all a Happy Black History Month. There two foods are that have been well known in the black community. Those foods just happened to be fried chicken and watermelon. Whenever you think of these foods, people would think stereotypes of black people. But believe it or not, fried chicken and watermelon has a very interesting history. A history I was surprised to learn about. Fried chicken as a word was first used in 19th century America. However, this food has Scottish and West African origins. The Scottish used cooking technique of called frittering which meant that poultry was coated batter or flour and deep fried in lard. Many peoples of West Africa cooked their chicken palm oil but unlike the Scottish they seasoned their poultry highly. The slavery trade in the American South. African slaves were allowed to raise their own chicken and fried them on special occasions. Both of the cooking techniques from the Scottish and West Africans we used ...

#SlapATeacherChallenge

Image
Lately, I have heard of a new social media challenge called #slapateacher. This challenge happens to be part a list that can found on TikTok. The reason this trend hit a nerve me is my mom ( I will not said her name on this post) is a retired teacher who was physically attacked at the school she worked ( I will not said the school's name on this post) twice. Even through she substitute teach for extra money, I got concerned about my mom getting slapped by some kid and seeing it go viral. Here are reason why you do not need to do the #slapateacher challenge nor any of the challenges on the list below.  1. IT'S ILLEGAL! When I was in the tenth grade, I learned that if you put your hands on a teacher in a school setting you will get arrested. It counts as assault, vandalism, destruction of property, indecent exposure, etc. 2. EVIDENCE! Whoever could up with these challenges did not think this though. Footage of these trends can be used against you in a court of law. 3. YOU MIGH...

Corona Crisis

Image
About around March 2020, the whole world went into lockdown because of the coronavirus also known as COVID-19. Former president Donald Trump was warned earlier in the year but did not anything to prepare the United States. The pandemic happened during an election year in which Trump had lost. Businesses, schools, restaurants, bars, nightclubs movie theaters shutdown due to the stay at home order. Events and festivals which included that 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan was cancelled.               Broadway turned off their lights and shut down productions. People quarantined in their homes to prevent the virus from spreading any further. Hundreds of thousands people died because of this virus. People lost their jobs, homes and businesses.              Celebrities were not immune to this pandemic. Some were either tested positive and/ or lost their lives...

Let This Be Black and Brown People

Image
On Janurary 6, 2021, Pro-Trump protestors breached the Capitol building. Washington DC has been placed under lockdown. A 6pm curfew has been enforced until 6am the next day. One woman was shot and killed. Trump told them to go home and in and that they were "special." Here is my opinion on the situation. Those protestors are on the wrong side of history. Inaugration is about to happen in two weeks and those protesters are in denial. Do you know what else I saw?. NEW COVID-19 CASES! Nothing was social distancing at all. I bet some people are going to lose there jobs, families, financial aid and/or even kicked out of school. Now, let this black and brown people. There would be water house sprayed on people, tear gas, the Capital would be on fire, arrests, beatings by authorities and even more deaths. This has been one of the most stupidest moments in American history.

New Year, New Hope!

Image
I know that 2020 has been a rough year. However, there have rougher years and the world has faced worse than. I noticed that every time there's a economic crisis, war, pandemic, or any other hard , people talked it's "the end of days." There was a theory that the world was going to end on December 21, 2012. Only God knows when the world's to end already. I feel like that poem from the Tupac Shakur called A Rose From Concrete. In my opinion, the concrete represents hard times and the rose represents myself. I also think about the businesses that started during a hard time in history. For example, popcorn was introduced in movie theaters during the Great Depression. If I ever find myself going through a hard, I must either survive or thrive. I noticed social media that due to the COVID-19, couples are having something called micro weddings. During the Great Depression and World War II, couple did something similar. It was called eloping or a trip to the justice of ...

Universal Parenting Advice

Image
I do not have children of my own at all. However, I was spending a lot time with my nephew while my older sister's at work and I learned on a lot. Even The Holy Bible tells children to obey there parents, it also tells a parent how to treat their the children. For example, there is Leviticus 19:29, Ephesians 6:4 and Matthew 18:6. They taught me that I should be careful of how I should treat young people in general. Here are some advice I would like to impart on you. 1. LISTEN TO YOUR CHILDREN! I put that in capital letters for a reason. If you don't learn to your children, the following will: a therapist, a counselor, their friends, their spouse, their boyfriend or girlfriend, etc. Especially when it's time to have "The Talk."  2 . Don't put too much pressure your kids. Your kids are already in enough pressure as it is from school, their peers, social media and the world. So parents why add more. That would just being up having high blood pressure when deali...

Range of Emotions

Image
So little and so much has happened since the last time I posted on this blog. Four years, on November 2016, Donald J. Trump was elected to be President of the United States of America. It was an election  I would never forget. I had never felt such of a range of emotions in my life.  I remember the weather was cold and cloudy that day. I went to my nearest polling place and voted. After I got home, my heart was beating for the rest of the day and night. I did not get much sleep that night either. There was a weird feeling in my stomach that I could not describe. Then...the news come. The next very next morning, I felt really depressed and scared at the same time. I was scared for not only the future of the United State of America but the world was well.I was scared that the United States of America would by something out of a dystopian novel like 1984 by George Orwell. I was scared for myself, my family and my friends. Now here's the depressed part. I felt bad both emotionall...

You Can Lose Your Job And It Is Not Your Fault

Image
I have had my struggles with the job search as long as I can remember. However, I have heard stories from people who lost their jobs or even got laid off and it was no fault of their own. Here is how you could lose your job and it is not your fault. Please keep in mind the this post does not apply to those who lost his or her job due to misconduct. 1. Change in your industry. It could be a technological change or you entire industry disappear. 2. Economic downturn. A recession or depression can have in effect on your occupation. 3. Budget cuts. A company can run out of money to operate. 4. Outsourced. Your job could move to another country. 5. Automation. Now this is currently happening at an accelerated rate. Product of the Post Before I go, I would to tell you about a book I that checked out in my local public library a few times.  50 Ways to Get a Job: An Unconventional Guide to Finding Work on Your Terms (the book above) by can help you out after get over your...

ATL vs. NYC

Image
I'm back! I have been doing a lot thinking and soul searching lately. I think it's time for me to move to somewhere else. I want to move somewhere where I can work on my arts career, somewhere there is move there is more transportation options and somewhere where I would have more to do. But, the thing is where do I move to. There are so many options out there and I need to weigh them out. I need to research their climates, cost of living, transportation options, nightlife, etc. So far, I have narrowed it down to two major cities in the United States. One of these cities I have been a few times and other I always wanted to visit. My first choice is Atlanta, GA. It is also known as Hot'Lanta, The A/da A, The ATL, A-Town, The Big Peach, Hollywood of the South, etc. I have been to this city a few times in my life because I have relatives there. Atlanta is also the state capital of Georgia. My second choice is New York City, New York. Like the city, I previousl...

Mindset: Rich

Image
I discussed what the poor mindset is on a previous post. Now I am going to talk about the rich mindset. There are certain things that someone with a rich mindset has. This is a mindset that I'm trying to develop myself. 1. They make their money work for them. 2.When opportunity knocks, they answer. 3. They know the value of self education. Product of the Post Before I go I would like to tell you about a about a book that I have come to like very much. Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill was originally published in 1937. However, I am showing you a version that is revised and updated for the 21st century. Becoming rich is not just how much money you have but it is all about your mindset.
